Ft. Polk South beat Virginia at Palladium Labs, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Jeff Wright, who earned player of the game honors. Wright went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-1. With the loss, Virginia is 1-5.
Ft. Polk South used the clutch hitting of Justin Forbes to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Thunder Hawks ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Ft. Polk South manager John Anderson.
