The Virginia Beach Whales did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Biloxi Shuckers at Virginia Beach Grounds. Nobody did more than catcher Xavier Mercier, who captured player of the game honors. Reliever Ernest Howe picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Samuel Tuffley took the loss. Getting the save was Bruno Mumford, his 1st.

A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when right fielder Dave Thomas, who is tied for 8th in the SAA with a .515 slugging percentage, drew a walk. The Whales went on to win.

"I like our moxie," said Whales manager Bernie Drake.

The Whales improved to a lofty 66-28.
