Blue Sox Topple Whales with Late Rally
|
The Irving Blue Sox topped the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-4, in USSL Double A action at Blue Sox Ballpark. The player of the game was Irving pitcher and Dracut, Massachusetts native Ramón Flores. The win was credited to José Colón in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Kenny Hunt took the loss. The Blue Sox go to 42-47, putting them 6th in the Silver AA.
The Blue Sox were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Nikolai Volkoff turned a first pitch sinker from Kenny Hunt into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Irving a thrilling 5-4 win.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Flores.
