The Boston Patriots topped the Greenville 84s, 3-2, in United States Premier League action at Dunkin Donuts Park. The player of the game was Boston pitcher Russ Horne. Horne, the winner, moves to 4-2. He threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 5 walks. Leo Ingelbrigtsen converted his 7th save in 12 tries.
The 84s had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Patriots going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old second baseman Frank Ray came to the plate. Ray hit a run-scoring single on a 1-0 curveball from Greenville hurler Andrew Moody. It was Ray's 21st hit of the year.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Boston manager Tyler Carter.
With the win, the Patriots have a record of 42-47.
