Evergreens Mow Down Oaks, 9-4
|
Portland Evergreens starter Eric Matson was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Oakland Oaks, 9-4. Raúl Romero closed it out for his 2nd save. The Evergreens, now 6-3, have played some good baseball in the early going.
Portland used the timely hitting of Willie McGirt to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Evergreens on top, 6-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Portland manager Brandon Slouck.
