Victory Pushes Whales Record to 52-20
|
Virginia Beach second baseman Sergio San Martín was instrumental in his team's 6-2 win over the Tacoma Fur Traders. San Martín, who leads the SAA in triples with 6, went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Whales. Kenneth Ferrell earned the win for Virginia Beach. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 5-3. Stan Lowe, credited with the save, is now 12 for 15 in save opportunities.
With Virginia Beach leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, San Martín hit a fastball from Paddy de Klerk for a bases-clearing double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Whales ahead, 5-1.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," San Martín told the Virginia Beach Bulletin.
The Whales improved to a lofty 52-20.
