Victory Over Ogres Takes Virginia Beach to 45-19
|
The exploits of first baseman Ron Lawrence, who leads the SAA with a .590 slugging percentage, helped the Virginia Beach Whales defeat the Olympia Ogres, 7-1. Lawrence was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Manuel Ruíz earned the win for Virginia Beach. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 3-3. Virginia Beach has an impressive 45-19 record.
Dave Thomas dealt the Ogres a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Virginia Beach leading 1-0, Thomas, who is tied for 7th in the SAA with a .327 batting average, hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Thomas said.
