Blue Sox Deal Shuckers Painful Loss
|
The Irving Blue Sox knocked off the Biloxi Shuckers, 5-4, at Blue Sox Ballpark. Franck Kooijmans, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Irving won. The third baseman went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Irving reliever Napoleon Vitagliano picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Samuel Tuffley took the loss. With the win, the Blue Sox have a record of 19-24.
Nikolai Volkoff was the walk-off hero for Irving. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Blue Sox first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Biloxi manager Ramiro Guzmán said following the tough loss.
