The Richland Rails knocked off the Marquette Miners, 6-5, at Marquette Stadium. César Vélez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Richland won. The center fielder was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. Chris Abbott picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-2. Greg Borges was tagged with the loss. Muoi Hoan closed the game out for Richland, earning his 8th save.
Richland used the timely hitting of Bellmay Blake to capture the win. The third baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Rails ahead, 5-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Vélez told the Richland News.
The 9th-place Rails are now 45-56, the Miners 31-70.
