Rapiers Fall to Polar Bears, 5-3
|
Durham right fielder Kiyohira Kan had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Kan was 2-4 with a home run, even as Billings beat the Rapiers, 5-3. Kan was named the player of the game despite the loss. Reliever Habakkuk Baldonado picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Héctor Marroquín took the loss. Javier Mejía converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Wilbur Thomas had a big run-scoring single for the Polar Bears in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Billings leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Héctor Marroquín and stroked the single to left. It was his 54th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Polar Bears ahead, 5-3.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Billings manager Ronald Harmon. "It's usually not just one thing."
The 6th-place Polar Bears improved to 42-40.
