Evergreens Get Win, Extend Streak to 5
|
The Evergreens had to overcome a good performance from Oakland pitcher Elroy Quaid to claim a 5-2 win at Oakland Coliseum. Quaid went 7.2 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Giovanni Mireles, the winner, improved to 5-7. He held the Oaks to 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Picking up the save was Raúl Romero, his 16th.
It could have been a different outcome for Portland, had it not been for John Schaefer, the slugging left fielder . Schaefer contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Portland up, 3-2.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Schaefer said after the game.
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Evergreens.
