Belvedere Park got a terrific performance from pitcher Héctor Barrera, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Highlanders. Asheville won the Asheville Park contest, 3-1. Barrera was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Asheville reliever Michael White picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Héctor Barrera took the loss. Gunner Cross closed the game out for Asheville, earning his 18th save.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Gunner Cross didn't flinch. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Belvedere Park trailing 3-1, Cross retired Amadeo Álvarez to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Cross, with a wink.
The Highlanders' win now puts them at 39-31.
