Highlanders Get 4-1 Win Versus Akron
|
Asheville and Akron duked it out at Goodyear Hanger Dome and the Highlanders came out victorious.
Asheville beat Akron on the strength of starter Manuel Medranda's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-1 win. Medranda got the win, improving to 3-4. He allowed 2 hits and walked 1 over 5 innings. Medranda allowed 1 earned run. Gunner Cross earned the save, his 17th.
The Highlanders grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth. With no one out, Dan Olson hit a solo home run off Tony Rocha, putting Asheville in front, 3-1. For Olson, it was his 5th home run of the season.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Medranda told reporters after the game.
Akron has now lost 4 in a row.
