Polar Bears Shut Out Blimps
|
Billings overcame a superlative game from Odmar van Hees to beat Akron, 1-0. The Akron pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Juan Ayala earned the win for Billings. He lasted 5 innings, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 5-5. Brandon Hughes was called on to finish, recording his 20th save.
Billings third baseman Qi-chao Di contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a changeup into right field for a run-scoring double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Polar Bears ahead, 1-0.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Di told the Billings Daily.
The 7th-place Polar Bears lifted their record to 28-29.
