Rainbow Mermaids Win at Greenville, 5-2
|
Northern Virginia and Greenville met at 84s Field in front of a lively crowd.
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids knocked off the Greenville 84s, 5-2, at 84s Field. Ryder Ringor, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Northern Virginia won. The first baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Ratko Davidovic earned the win to go to 2-0. He allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Brewster Warble sewed up the save, his 20th.
Northern Virginia used the bat of Jesús Vargas to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Vargas told the Northern Virginia News.
The Rainbow Mermaids improved to a lofty 54-23.
