The Asheville Highlanders faced a tough opponent in Ottawa pitcher Manu Jortikka, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Nationals Park by a final score of 4-3. Jortikka went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Asheville reliever Said Akimi picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Manu Jortikka absorbed the loss. Gunner Cross sewed up the save, his 10th.
Asheville used the bat of Carsello Scruggins to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Ottawa skipper Fernando Gonzáles, "and it cost us."
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Asheville.
