Polar Bears Suffer 7-6 Setback
Wilbur Thomas did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Billings Polar Bears from losing, 7-6, to the Ottawa Nationals at The Igloo. Thomas went 1-2 with a double and 3 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win was credited to Lucho Pousa in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Albert Karlier took the loss. Ottawa has now won 4 straight, while the Polar Bears have lost 3 in a row.

Ottawa used the timely hitting of Manuel Vroonland to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

In comments to the Ottawa News, Vroonland admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
