Miners Jolt BC with Late Rally

The Marquette Miners got a magnificent effort from pitcher Jeff McDermott, who kept San Antonio hitters in check en route to a 2-1 Miners win at Marquette Stadium. Joe Gorman got the save, the 2nd for him this season. Even with the win, the Miners have a dismal 12-27 record.
Had Jorge Japón not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Japón hit a 2-run double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Miners.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Japón told the Marquette News.
