The Alloway Halberds did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Syracuse Starks at Ballpark of Alloway. Nobody did more than pitcher Bob Browning, who captured player of the game honors. Frank Butler earned his 6th save in 8 chances. After today's action, Alloway sits at 36-52, while Syracuse falls to 37-51.
The Halberds got a big at-bat from shortstop Govaart Baars. For the game, Baars was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Alloway a 4-3 lead.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Baars said.
