The Akron Blimps took Asheville pitcher Alberto Ortíz's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Asheville Park. The final score had Akron getting past the Highlanders, 2-1. Ortíz went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 6. The winner was Rod Shannon in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Vincent Hubbard took the loss. Akron is now 4-3.
Akron used the timely hitting of Donald Lund to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blimps on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Lund told the Akron Daily News.
