Lakers Score Late, Upend Piranhas, 7-6
|
The Echo Park Lakers did just enough to secure a 7-6 victory over the Panama City Piranhas at The Tank. Nobody did more than right fielder Kyu-cheol Kye, who captured player of the game honors. The win was Bobby Roode's in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Awad Mahmudnizhad took the loss for Panama City. Corbin Holling was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 30 of 33 save opportunities.
Echo Park used the timely hitting of Angeddy Almanzar to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Lakers on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"We take it day by day here," said Almanzar, "and today was a good one for us."
Echo Park now sits in third place in the Third League at 65-43.
