The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids topped the Portland Evergreens by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Jesús Vargas. Vargas was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Rainbow Mermaids on the day. The first-place Rainbow Mermaids have won 5 straight games.

Northern Virginia took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, catcher Tim Stinson hit a 3-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Stinson.
