Pandas Go Down to Defeat, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Echo Park Lakers and the Montana Pandas, Wop Baars was the difference-maker. The Echo Park right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. Baars went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 9-3. Corbin Holling was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 22 save opportunities.
The Lakers beat the Pandas in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Angeddy Almanzar produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Montana pitcher Juan Contreras, Almanzar gave his team a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
In postgame comments to the Echo Park Herald, Almanzar said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
At 46-28, Echo Park is in second place in the Third League.
