Lakers Jolt 1837 BBC with Late Rally
|
Houston Grounds was the site for Menard's Third League action featuring the Houston 1837 BBC and Echo Park Lakers.
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Phil Gillespie, the Echo Park Lakers defeated the Houston 1837 BBC, 6-3. Gillespie was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Lakers. Echo Park reliever Jeffery Prosser was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was José Ledezma. Earning his 13th save for Echo Park was Corbin Holling.
Gillespie had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 2-0 cutter from José Ledezma, he banged a grand slam home run to left, giving the Lakers a 6-3 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Gillespie.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Gillespie told the Echo Park Herald.
The 1837 BBC, at 15-31, have lost 7 in a row.
