Starks Edge Phoenix in Pitching Duel
|
The Syracuse Starks faced a tough opponent in Phoenix pitcher Larry Souder, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Thunderbirds Stadium by a final score of 1-0. Souder went 8 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Ollie McDaniell got the win, improving to 2-6. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and no runs, while striking out 9 and walking 2. Picking up the save was Greyfriars Bobby, his 5th.
Enrique Rocha, who is tied for 7th in the SAAA in extra base hits with 24, contributed to the Syracuse win with a solo home run in the top of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Syracuse skipper Kenny Billings.
Syracuse is now 23-37.
