Starks Bang Out 6-4 Win Versus Alloway
|
The Alloway Halberds got a superb performance from first baseman Carlos Garza, but the Syracuse Starks still won the game, 6-4. Garza was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. Edmund Blackadder earned the win for Syracuse. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 8 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 2-4. Syracuse is now 17-30, while Alloway is 21-26.
Akke Derksen had a big 2-run single for the Starks in the top of the fourth inning. With Syracuse trailing 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a changeup from Jesús Cruz and stroked the single to center. It was his 48th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Starks ahead, 3-2.
"I know we have our doubters," said Alloway manager Manuel Hernández. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
