Redbirds Score Late, Stun Redlegs, 10-9
|
Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Neville van Mierlo, the Memphis Redbirds defeated the Sacramento Redlegs, 10-9. van Mierlo was 2 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Redbirds. Memphis reliever Sheldon Whiteside picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Hwa-pyung Yi took the loss. The Redbirds now have a record of 15-22.
Memphis took a 10-9 lead on Modesto Barreiro's 5th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Barreiro hit in the top of the ninth, left Sacramento pitcher Hwa-pyung Yi shaking his head.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Memphis skipper Elliott Taylor.
