5 Straight Wins for Halberds
|
The Alloway Halberds got a strong performance from pitcher Jesús Cruz, who stymied the Syracuse offense en route to a 6-2 win at Stark Stadium. Cruz, now 2-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Alloway has now won 5 straight.
The Starks had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Halberds going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 32-year old right fielder Carlos Garza came to the plate. Garza hit a run-scoring single on a 0-1 slider from Syracuse hurler José Ortíz. It was Garza's 21st hit of the year.
Garza told a Alloway Today reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
