Dodos Saddle Redlegs with 8-2 Loss
|
The Hialeah Dodos defeated the Sacramento Redlegs, 8-2. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Paul Byrd, who was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Dave Stephenson got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Redlegs to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Robert Vodchak got credit for the save for Hialeah. It was his 1st of the year.
Hialeah first baseman Jon Deal contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a curveball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 7th hit of the season and put the Dodos ahead, 4-0.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Deal told the Hialeah Daily.
The Dodos are off to an underwhelming start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 4th win in 9 games.
