Halberds Come Back Late, Nip Starks
|
Alloway and Syracuse played a hard-fought contest at Stark Stadium.
Halberds designated hitter Mike Clifton put his stamp on his team's 3-2 win over the Syracuse Starks. Clifton was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times for Alloway in the contest. The winner was Alloway reliever Kerry Tenner, now 1-0. The loser was Greyfriars Bobby.
Alloway used the clutch hitting of Govaart Baars to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Halberds the lead, 3-2. For the game, Baars had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Clifton.
With the loss, Syracuse is 1-1.
