Virginia Beach got a strong outing from Manuel Ruíz as the Whales defeated the Irving Blue Sox, 7-1, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Kenny Hunt earned his 1st save in 1 tries. With the win, the Whales improved to 20-7.

Ron Lawrence put Virginia Beach in front, 6-0, when he took Joe Holland downtown. His grand slam home run came with two out in the bottom of the fourth. It was his 9th home run of the season.

"It's good to win," Lawrence told the Virginia Beach Bulletin. "I like to have fun doing it."
