Virginia Beach center fielder Dave Thomas had a big day at Virginia Beach Grounds today against the Irving Blue Sox. The 23-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-5 and led the Whales to a 15-8 triumph over Irving.

"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Thomas said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."

Dave Thomas singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Ramón Flores in the 4th, hit a two-run triple in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Thomas is presently hitting at a .455 pace with 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. He has played in 14 games and scored 11 times.
