The Irving Blue Sox got a strong performance from pitcher Frank Butler, who stymied the Phoenix Hotspur offense en route to a 3-1 win at Blue Sox Ballpark. Napoleon Vitagliano earned the save for Irving, his 4th of the year. With the loss, Phoenix Hotspur is 9-8.
Nikolai Volkoff, the Irving first baseman, contributed a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to make the score 2-0, Blue Sox. For the game, Volkoff was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Irving manager Bill Clark said.
