Amaya Goes Wild, But Whales Win
|
Lake Minnetonka got a terrific performance from shortstop António Amaya, but it wasn't enough to beat the Virginia Beach Whales. Virginia Beach won the Heron Field contest, 13-8. Amaya was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The Whales, now 11-1, have stormed out of the gates.
Virginia Beach used the bat of Sergio San Martín to get the win. The second baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Whales ahead, 13-8. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Hitting, winning. It's just contagious," said San Martín.
