Polar Bears Fall Short at Asheville
|
The Asheville Highlanders beat the Billings Polar Bears, 3-2, at Asheville Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Francis Raffone, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles. Gunner Cross, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. The Highlanders, now 3-1, have been playing some good baseball.
Kevin McIndeor was the walk-off hero for Asheville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Highlanders first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring triple to send the teams home.
McIndeor said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
