Mayfield goes 3-for-4 as Red Pandas Squeeze Past Indianapolis
The Sioux Falls Red Pandas beat the Indianapolis Racers, 6-5, at The Bamboo Forest. Sioux Falls right fielder Rick Mayfield earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Sioux Falls is now 35-48, while Indianapolis is 47-36.

Had Reg Spiers not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Spiers hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Red Pandas.

"We'll savor this win," Mayfield told the Sioux Falls Gazette, "then get ready for the next game."
