Vargas Lifts Rainbow Mermaids to 9-3 Triumph
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids bested the Portland Evergreens, 9-3, at Evergreen Park. Jesús Vargas was named player of the game. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Northern Virginia is now 27-8, 6 games up in the Premier League.
Phil McCroskey made an early impact for Northern Virginia when he stroked his 37th hit of the season. The 2-run single, which came with two out in the top of the third, put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 4-1.
"We maximized our offense today," said Northern Virginia skipper David Lister. "That makes everyone's life easier."
