Evergreens Hang 5-2 Loss on Rainbow Mermaids
The Portland Evergreens got a good effort from starter Robert Smalls in defeating the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Evergreen Park. The final score was 5-2. Smalls picked up the win for Portland, going 7 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 2-4. The Evergreens bumped their record to 21-13 with this latest triumph.

The Rainbow Mermaids had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Evergreens going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old first baseman Syed Sarkar came to the plate. Sarkar hit a run-scoring single on a 0-2 circle change from Northern Virginia hurler Miguel Rubia. It was Sarkar's 29th hit of the year.

"Robert's tempo and rhythm were good," said Evergreens manager Brandon Slouck. "He was the key to us winning."
