Drummers Come Back Late to Clip Racers
|
Indianapolis got a terrific performance from pitcher Tim Walker, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tortolita Drummers. Tortolita won the Drummers Ballpark contest, 4-2. Walker was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. The Drummers boast a remarkable 37-7 record.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Blythe Plumpley came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Indianapolis pitcher Tom Hegedus, he hit a 1-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Tortolita on top, 3-2.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Plumpley said.
