Loss to Reserves Extends Salt Lake City Losing Streak
|
The Salt Lake City Buzz got a sterling performance from pitcher Cliff Claven, but the Reserves still prevailed, 7-4. Claven was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Salvador Sagastizabal picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-1. He struck out 4 in 7 innings. Salt Lake City is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
Had Carlos Rojas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Rojas hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Reserves.
Rojas expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
