The Evergreens faced a stiff challenge from Philadelphia 1776 pitcher NaNomi Lojore, but persevered to claim a win at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. The final score was 7-4. Lojore went 5.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Raúl Romero was called on to finish, recording his 6th save. The BC, now 13-15, have lost 4 in a row.
Portland used a timely hit from John Schaefer to get the win. The designated hitter delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the fourth inning to put the Evergreens on top, 6-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments to the Portland Herald, Schaefer said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
