Evergreens Fall to Battery, 6-3
|
Portland center fielder Willie McGirt was sensational. He was 2-2 with 2 singles and 3 walks, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Charleston beat the Evergreens, 6-3. McGirt was named the player of the game despite the loss. Melvin Tiburcio picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 2-3. Kenete Daku recorded his 5th save for Charleston.
Charleston used the clutch hitting of Spencer Powell to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Battery ahead, 6-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I really like what we did out there today," Powell said after the game.
The Battery saw their record improve to 12-14.
