Oakland got a terrific performance from pitcher Faisal bin Nabeel, but it wasn't enough to beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Northern Virginia won the Oakland Coliseum contest, 4-3. bin Nabeel was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The win was Bobby Ruegsegger's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Júlio Rodríguez took the loss for Oakland. Brewster Warble earned the save for Northern Virginia, his 5th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Northern Virginia, had it not been for Scott Dourque, the slick-fielding center fielder . Dourque contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Northern Virginia up, 4-3.
Dourque told a Northern Virginia News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The last-place Oaks have dropped 4 straight games.
