Jarca goes 3-for-4, Rocketeers Move to 1-0
|
The bad news for the Panama City Piranhas: an opening day loss, 7-1, to the Seattle Rocketeers at The Tank. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. Earning player of the game honors was José Jarca. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. John A. Mais picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 1-0.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Claudio Tappen to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Rocketeers on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Jarca.
