Sierra, Outlaws Beat Coeur, 8-5
|
The Nashville Outlaws defeated the St. Louis Coeur, 8-5. Earning player of the game honors was designated hitter Javier Sierra, who was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jesús Cruz picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 2-0. Nashville now owns a record of 46-52.
The Coeur had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Outlaws going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right-handed pitcher Mark Toope came to the plate. Toope hit a 3-run home run on a 2-2 cutter from St. Louis hurler Tony Alfonso. It was Toope's 4th home run of the year.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Sierra.
