Rainbow Mermaids Walk Off with 5-4 Win
|
Jonas van Claveren did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Phoenix Hotspur from losing, 5-4, to the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Atlantica. van Claveren was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Northern Virginia reliever Brewster Warble, now 4-2. The loser was Russ Horne. Northern Virginia has an impressive 46-20 record.
Dewitt Hopper, who is tied for 8th in the SL with a .927 OPS, chipped in for Northern Virginia with a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth. For the game, the first baseman had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 2 singles, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister. "It's usually not just one thing."
