Whales Win to Tie Series with Hops
The Virginia Beach Whales and the Yakima Hops will take the SL AA Championship to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation today, the Whales beat the Hops 6-2 at Hops Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Virginia Beach left-hander Stan Lowe was named player of the game in the win after he came in in relief and pitched to 15 batters .

The outcome might have been different for Virginia Beach, had it not been for Ernest O'Neal, the 25-year old right fielder . O'Neal stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Virginia Beach up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"This was a good win for us," said Lowe. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

The next game is set to be played Sunday. The scheduled starters for the game are Aurelio Ortíz for the Yakima Hops and Manuel Ruíz for the the Virginia Beach Whales.
