Hops Rally Past Whales for 2-1 Series Lead
|
When the games really matter, the Yakima Hops put on their best show, beating the Virginia Beach Whales by a final score of 7-6 today. Mulia Muljana earned player of the game honors, as he was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Yakima now leads Virginia Beach 2-1 in the best-of-5 affair.
Rafael Bregonzi was the walk-off hero for Yakima. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hops left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"This was a good win for us," said Bregonzi. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Nicolaas de Jongh for Virginia Beach and Manny Burgos for Yakima.
