Warren, Virginia Beach Start SL AA Championship Strong with Home Win
The Virginia Beach Whales started the SL AA Championship in style today, downing the visiting Yakima Hops at Virginia Beach Grounds by a score of 5-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Whales second baseman David Warren was named player of the game after he went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs.

In the bottom of the fourth, Virginia Beach first baseman Ron Lawrence had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Lawrence stroked a 2-run home run to left. It made the score 4-2, Virginia Beach. For the game, he went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Warren said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Virginia Beach Grounds. The scheduled starters for the game are Nicholas Finn for the Yakima Hops and Bruno Mumford for the the Virginia Beach Whales.
