Northwest Territory Beavers manager Tom Carlson knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 21-year-old right-hander Jerry Cherry silenced the host Amarillo Warheads at Ballpark of Henderson today. The Beavers shut out the Warheads by a final score of 4-0, to give the Beavers a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-5 3L R Championship.

Cherry gave Northwest Territory a solid start. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 7.1 innings.

"Teams don't get here by being incompetent, so I really wasn't expecting this," Cherry said. "I just kept throwing and they kept missing."
